Mazak VTC – used machines, fully inspected
The Mazak VTC is the traveling-column series in the Mazak range: the table stays fixed while the column carrying the vertical spindle moves along it. That gives long X-axis travel for long workpieces on a compact footprint.
The list below shows which VTC machines are currently for sale. Each one is fully inspected and documented, with worldwide shipping, installation and commissioning handled end to end.

What does the traveling-column design give you?
The VTC turns the usual vertical machining center concept on its head: instead of the table pushing the workpiece under the spindle, the column carrying the spindle travels over a fixed table — Mazak calls it the traveling-column design. The payoff is a large working envelope on a small footprint, with one continuous long-bed table instead of a short cross table. That makes the VTC Mazak’s series for long parts.
- Overhang allowed — workpieces may overhang table and axis travels; permissible workpiece dimensions exceed the strokes.
- Unlike VCN/VC-NEXUS — those centers’ moving cross table keeps them limited in X.
- Per-machine data — travels, table sizes and load capacities per each machine’s data sheet, included with every quote.
How do you set up work on the long table?
The long table is more than a clamping surface — it is a way of organizing production. Magazine capacity, spindle speed and rapid traverse rates depend on machine size, model year and equipment. On the VTC-530-C and VTC-760-C, temperature-controlled coolant circulates through the spindle cartridge according to Mazak’s brochure — when buying used, what counts is less the feature itself than the condition of the chiller unit and cooling circuit.
- Center partition (optional) — splits the working area into two zones: set up on one side while the machine cuts on the other.
- Pallet-changer alternative — setup during machining time without a two-pallet changer’s mechanics and floor space, per Mazak.
- Row clamping — just as typical: a row of identical parts clamped in one setup.
- 40-taper tooling — every VTC we have traded runs ISO/CAT/BT 40.
- HD variants — VTC-800/20HD and /30HD with CAT 50 spindle for heavy cutting; we have not yet had one in stock.
When do you need the 5-axis version SR, SDR or SLR?
The 5-axis-capable versions carry the suffixes SR, SDR and SLR — VTC-800/20SR, /30SR and /30SLR. VTC-800 denotes a size class, not an axis count: the 3-axis HD models belong to the same family. Rather than tilting the workpiece like a trunnion-table VARIAXIS center, these machines swivel the tool via an NC swivel head acting as the B axis — with the long table, that means 5-sided machining on parts too long or bulky for a trunnion machine.
- SR — swivel head plus optional NC rotary table, mounted left or right on the fixed table.
- SLR — swivel head with the NC rotary table permanently integrated.
- Full 5-axis simultaneous — additionally requires the NC rotary table: optional on the SR, factory-integrated on the SLR.
Which MAZATROL generation is fitted — and does CAM run on it?
Control is MAZATROL throughout, but across several generations — which one is installed depends on the specific machine and model year, not the model name. Every generation handles EIA/ISO alongside MAZATROL conversational programming, so CAM programs can be loaded via the ISO channel. The post processor does need to be matched to the specific machine: axis configuration, swivel-head kinematics, control generation.
- M-Plus / (PC-)Fusion 640M — documented on the older VTC-200 family.
- MATRIX / MATRIX 2 — on the VTC-800/20SR and /30SR.
- SmoothG — current VTC-530-C and VTC-760-C, per the manufacturer’s brochure.
- Older Fusion controls — check program memory and DNC connectivity; we clarify what that involves before you buy.
- Equipment varies per machine — through-spindle coolant, chip conveyor, touch probe or a 4th axis; we document it for each one.
Which VTC group suits your workpiece?
The series falls into three groups. Watch the model designations here: on the VTC-200, the C stands for the longer build, whereas on the VTC-530-C and VTC-760-C it denotes the current series generation.
| Group | Models | Characteristic |
|---|---|---|
| Compact 3-axis traveling column | VTC-200-B-II, VTC-200-C, VTC-200-C-II | older generation; B length with the shorter table, C length with the longer table and greater X travel |
| Current C generation | VTC-530-C, VTC-760-C | SmoothG; same length, differentiated by width and height class |
| Large 5-axis-capable traveling column | VTC-800/20SR, VTC-800/30SR, VTC-800/30SLR | B-axis swivel head |
We quote travels, table dimensions and load capacities per machine from its data sheet rather than as series-wide values.
Frequently asked questions about the Mazak VTC
What condition are used Mazak VTC machines from TÖRNER in?
Every machine is technically inspected and documented before sale – spindle, axes, guideways, tool changer, control and peripherals. You receive the year of manufacture, operating hours where readable, an equipment list and photos, plus an inspection under power on request. On traveling-column machines in particular, it pays to check the condition of the way covers and guideways along the full X travel, as well as chip evacuation underneath the long table.
Which MAZATROL control will I get on a used VTC?
That depends on the year of manufacture, not the model name. Older VTC-200s run MAZATROL M-Plus or the Fusion generation (Fusion 640M) depending on build year, the VTC-800/20SR and /30SR run MATRIX or MATRIX 2, and the current VTC-530-C and VTC-760-C run SmoothG. We tell you the exact generation of the specific machine before you decide. Since every generation runs EIA/ISO alongside MAZATROL, even an older control can be integrated into an existing CAM chain – usually with an adapted post processor, and on older controls with an additional look at program memory and DNC connectivity.
What about spare parts and service for older machines?
Mechanical assemblies such as spindles, ball screws, tool changers and pumps are generally well covered through service networks and the used-parts market. More critical are control-specific components of older MAZATROL generations – displays, power supplies, drive amplifiers – where it makes a real difference whether a machine runs M-Plus, Fusion, MATRIX or Smooth. Before you buy, we establish exactly which control and drive generation is installed so you can assess parts availability realistically – and we can take over maintenance after installation if you wish.
Can a 3-axis VTC be upgraded with a 4th axis later?
On the 3-axis models VTC-200-C and VTC-530-C, a 4th axis is added via an NC rotary table on the fixed table. The deciding factors are control support for the additional axis, a spare axis interface on the drive package and space in the working area – we check this on the specific machine before you plan a retrofit. On the swivel-head variants VTC-800/20SR and /30SR, the B-axis swivel head is fitted at the factory; there, the NC rotary table provides the 5th axis and can be placed on the left or right of the machine table.
Do you handle dismantling, shipping and commissioning?
Yes. We handle professional dismantling at the seller's site, worldwide shipping including export documentation and sea-freight packaging, then installation, alignment and commissioning at your facility – with maintenance and financing available too, all through one partner. With a VTC, clarify access routes, crane paths and the foundation early: the long table and traveling-column design need little floor space, but they do require consistently accurate leveling along the entire X length and room for workpieces overhanging both ends of the table.
I'm looking for a Mazak VTC 800 – can I get one if it isn't in stock right now?
Yes. Beyond the machines currently in stock, we search through a worldwide network of dealers, liquidators and end users. Tell us the travels, workpiece weight, preferred control generation and equipment you need – we come back with matching machines and a condition report instead of offering you the wrong size class. The series runs from the compact VTC-200 traveling column to the 5-axis VTC-800/30SLR — and we know that whole range from our day-to-day trading.

We also trade these Mazak series — and any other on request.
