Every machine is technically inspected and documented before sale – spindle, axes, guideways, tool changer, control and peripherals. You receive the year of manufacture, operating hours where readable, an equipment list and photos, plus an inspection under power on request. On traveling-column machines in particular, it pays to check the condition of the way covers and guideways along the full X travel, as well as chip evacuation underneath the long table.

That depends on the year of manufacture, not the model name. Older VTC-200s run MAZATROL M-Plus or the Fusion generation (Fusion 640M) depending on build year, the VTC-800/20SR and /30SR run MATRIX or MATRIX 2, and the current VTC-530-C and VTC-760-C run SmoothG. We tell you the exact generation of the specific machine before you decide. Since every generation runs EIA/ISO alongside MAZATROL, even an older control can be integrated into an existing CAM chain – usually with an adapted post processor, and on older controls with an additional look at program memory and DNC connectivity.

Mechanical assemblies such as spindles, ball screws, tool changers and pumps are generally well covered through service networks and the used-parts market. More critical are control-specific components of older MAZATROL generations – displays, power supplies, drive amplifiers – where it makes a real difference whether a machine runs M-Plus, Fusion, MATRIX or Smooth. Before you buy, we establish exactly which control and drive generation is installed so you can assess parts availability realistically – and we can take over maintenance after installation if you wish.

On the 3-axis models VTC-200-C and VTC-530-C, a 4th axis is added via an NC rotary table on the fixed table. The deciding factors are control support for the additional axis, a spare axis interface on the drive package and space in the working area – we check this on the specific machine before you plan a retrofit. On the swivel-head variants VTC-800/20SR and /30SR, the B-axis swivel head is fitted at the factory; there, the NC rotary table provides the 5th axis and can be placed on the left or right of the machine table.

With a VTC, clarify access routes, crane paths and the foundation early: the long table and traveling-column design need little floor space, but they do require consistently accurate leveling along the entire X length and room for workpieces overhanging both ends of the table.
